Just How Did Fyffe Get Its Name?
A member of the Campbell family, whose family goes back several generations in the area, has said that they know the story because it was told to them by their grandfather and been passed down from one generation to another. According to their story, an army colonel by the name of "Fyffe" really loved the area when he passed through it during the "War" (most likely the civil war) and afterwards moved his whole family to the area. The colonel and his family gave great contributions to the community. So since the "Fyffe" family gave so much to the area, the post master gave the town the name "Fyffe" .
After a few years, this rumor was found to be true. A professor from the University of Virginia came to this area doing some geneology research. He had found a family connection to a "Colonel Fyffe" who lived in Northeast Alabama. Imagine his surprise to find the town of Fyffe. He was very happy about this and is certain that this Colonel Fyffe from his family tree and our Colonel Fyffe is one in the same.
