Fire Chief Thomas has been a dedicated member of the Fyffe Fire Department since the age of 14 when he entered into the fire service as a Junior Firefighter under Chief R.E. (Bob) Huntington. He attained the rank of Asst. Chief of Fyffe Fire/Rescue at the young age of 18.
Thomas was named Fyffe Fire Chief in October of 2004 by Mayor Larry Lingerfelt and the town council. He has become a highly qualified and skilled Fire Fighter over the years. Below is a broad overview of some of the training he has received:

- Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician
- National Incident Management System - National Fire Academy
- Incident Command System - National Fire Academy
- Fire Control Tactics & Strategies - National Fire Academy
- Command & Control of Wildland/Urban Interface Fire Operations - National Fire Academy
- Rope Rescue Technician I/II - CMC Rescue
- Vehicle Extrication Technician - Tennessee Assoc. of Rescue Squads
- Thomas currently serves as Vice President of the DeKalb County Association of Fire Departments.
