TOWN OF FYFFE MILESTONES & OBJECTIVES

Mayor Lingerfelt and the Town Council has applied many very positive and unique business practices for Fyffe since being elected in 2004.  The town's finances are in the best condition anyone can ever remember.  This has happened as a result of aggressively pursuing changes in the process of how monies for the town are collected and by making tough decisions in regard to changing how things had been done in the past.  An example of this was the closing of the Jail and eliminating dispatching.  As a result of these changes the Mayor and Council have been able to help generate additional monies to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Fyffe.  In fact other towns in the county are now emulating some of these same actions in an effort to do the same for their constituents.

Evidence of the improved cash flow has been demonstrated with both the Police and Fire Departments who have been greatly upgraded with new modern equipment in the form of two new state-of-the-art Police Cruisers and two new Fire Trucks that are the envy of many other such towns with similar departments in the area.  Also, an upgrade of more modern vehicles for the Street and Sewer Department has occurred.

Looking to the future the present administration has greatly upgraded the sewer system with a new modern Sewer Lift-Station with enough capacity to serve four town's the size of Fyffe.  Also, as part of the sewer expansion close to a hundred homes have been hooked to the sewer system with no expense to it’s residents.  The Mayor and Council are not resting when it comes to such an important piece of the town’s infrastructure.  They are currently exploring a totally new efficiency concept for Fyffe and all of Sand Mountain regarding the sewer system and how it should be administered.  When the new concept is finalized it will provide a win-win approach for everyone concerned.

Also another very important part of the town's infrastructure is streets and roads.  The present administration has been able to complete both Garmany Road and Drain Road from dirt to pavement within their first three years of service to the community while providing upgrades to other roads such as Twin Oaks, and Camp Lane.

Perhaps the most talked about action of the present administration is its desire to revitalize and beautify Fyffe.  The Mayor and council are actively working hard to revitalize the downtown area along highway 75 by purchasing old dilapidated buildings and removing them to allow for new future business locations near the center of town.

At the same time the town’s Beautification Awards help bring a new awareness to everyone of their responsibility to make a good first impression with both visitors and neighbors.  A clean and attractive town attracts the best customers and residents to our town while increasing everyone’s property value.  It brings a great sense of pride to the entire community to be known as an attractive place to live and raise a family.

Infrastructure improvements also include the renovation of the town's Fire Hall into a greatly needed new Municipal Building for the town that includes new administration facilities, Municipal Court, and Police Department.  Also, for perhaps the first time Fyffe will have adequate parking facilities for court night, council meetings, and special events with the expansion and paving of a large new parking lot and safe entrance and exit onto Highway 50.

The Mayor and Town Council have upgraded the Town Park with a new Performing Stage, Gazebo, renovation of Restroom facilities and Concession Stand, new Flag Pole, as well as with new and relocated fencing.  A new landscaping approach is also in progress with new well manicured Flower Beds and Wooded Area that is enjoyed by all that utilize the Town Park.  Utilization is the key word as the park is now being used more than ever by people of all ages beginning before daylight until 11:00 p.m. at night.  The Fyffe Town Park has become one of the most beautiful and functional facilities of its kind in the area.

Also, a new Boys Baseball Field on town property has been completed and a new Concession Stand constructed that is being utilized by both the Boys and Girls.  The Girls now have their own beautiful Softball field on town property that was completed in less than a year by hard working volunteers in the community.  This is a great example of how volunteerism continues to help with the quality of life in our town.  The Parking at both these locations has also been greatly increased as the present administration has concentrated on this area to improve with pipe, fill debris, and chert to eliminate the huge ditch and drainage area that adjoins both fields of play.  The Soccer Program on town property has also been revived this year and the town greatly supports such youth leagues in the community.

Unique actions taken by the present administration would not be complete without mentioning Fyffe UFO Days!  The annual town festival that celebrates the time UFO's were sighted around the area has brought world-wide attention to Fyffe in the form of very positive newspaper and television coverage.  In fact one large area newspaper reported in a special editorial that Fyffe should indeed be commended.  As it had ‘taken a lemon and made lemonade’ with it's inception of Fyffe UFO Days!  The annual two day festival features giant Hot Air Balloon rides across the Sand Mountain area as well as great family entertainment for young and old alike.  The event is now being publicized in Southern Living Magazine as a great tourist destination as well as with the Alabama Tourism Department.  Also, Fyffe UFO Days was recently featured on the cover of Sand Mountain Living Magazine and also included very good story coverage of the event.  It is obvious for the future Fyffe UFO Days has great potential to become one of the major annual festival events in North Alabama.

Other special annual events planned for the citizens of the town by the town’s outstanding Events Committee includes; Trick or Treat in the Park on October 31st and the Christmas Parade on December 8th.  The Christmas Parade will be followed with free hotdogs and hot chocolate in the Town Park for everyone to enjoy!

As evidence of the changes and progress this Mayor and Council consist of a very pro-active group that is not afraid to make tough decisions that will positively impact the town and it's citizens long into the future.  "Our group is working hard to position Fyffe for the future with much needed infrastructure improvements in the form of new roads, sewer expansions, municipal facility renovations, business revitalization efforts, and the development of a true Fyffe Industrial Park that will provide future jobs for area residents for years to come”,  explained Mayor Larry Lingerfelt.

Fyffe is on the move!  As evidenced by the University of Alabama’s study that ranks Fyffe as the third fastest growing town in DeKalb County percentage wise.  Come and enjoy the quality of life our rural community has to offer.  You will see we are a great place to live, whether you’re raising a family or planning to retire.
